The SMB networking market is far from overcrowded, so the Zyxel NWA1123-AC HD wireless access point is a welcomed addition and a nice alternative to the APs from the UniFi series, offering a good wireless performance and some interesting Wave 2 features. The NebulaFlex controller is less consumer friendly than the CloudTrax or Omada, but it can be compared to the complex UniFi controller, especially considering that it is a complete environment (includes switches and gateways), but also because it allows for an in-depth configuration and monitoring of your network. Furthermore, you can use the access point in stand-alone mode (as an alternative to an on-site controller), via a mobile app or through the Cloud, which has a comprehensive free version of Nebula, as well as a paid variant with more complex features.

The good: - good range - I can cover a single-storey concrete built house comfortably with one of those at 5GHz - good performance - can easily support multiple clients streaming HD video at the same time - pro-grade configuration options - sleek, unobtrusive design - PoE The bad: - the management side of the firmware, with its web UI - very crude, unresponsive, poorly laid out and confusing - it seems to be a common feature of Zyxel products (I have their PoE switch, same issues) At the end of the day, once you manage to configure this unit, it is hands-off. I'd buy it again, but would not recommend one to people who have no networking experience. You'd be better off with a more consumer-grade unit.

Got sky broadband and they brand new 2015 router doesn't provide 5GHz wireless connectivity, so not wanting to move back to the incredibly congested 2.4 range I purchased this bad boy and centrally located it (using a long ethernet lead and POE switch) and I don't even need my range extenders any more!

DO NOT BUY THIS AP. YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.. Its software/firmware is clearly flawed and ZyXEL do not know how to fix it. After 12-18 hours the performance of the 5Ghz drops to less than 50% of what it should be (speed test (dot ) net app) - Flip your phone or ipad onto the 2.4Ghz and you're back at full speed, flip back to 5ghz and its sh'te again. Support try and help but clearly there is something fundamentally wrong with this item. Unfortunately it took me longer than 30 days to realise, so I can't send it back. As a workaround I've now got my NAS setup with a cron job rebooting it every 12 hours so I can actually use the 5Ghz. I've just got to remember not to be downloading anything over Wifi over 6am or 6pm. If you don't believe me go and read the reviews of the same device on Amazon dot com all the 2 and 3 star reviews tell you everything you need to know...... AVOID!!!
