In recent years I've had one or two disappointments with lens hoods from other brands. It was very refreshing to get this one for my Canon PowerShot. The design is excellent, and the way it affixes to the front of the cam is superb, Top marks to Canon on this one. (It's a pity I can't say the same about a hood for another brand that I can't name here, which didn't last 3 weeks before the fastening to the front of their lens started jamming).

Be aware that this hood is not compatible with Canon's FA-DC58E filter ring adapter for the G1X Mk. II. That's a pretty significant oversight, given that many people would like to use both at the same time. Instead, Canon makes you choose one or the other. The hood itself is fine. Fits securely, reversible, etc.

The only thing wrong with this is that it wasn't included in the price of the camera. It is very quick and easy to pop onto the camera, and it can be attached to the camera in reverse orientation for storage, without increasing the camera's size in a bag or case.
