Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition tilbyder en unik åben verden-oplevelse i Hong Kong med fokus på martial arts-kampe i stedet for skudepisoder. Kampmekanikken roses bredt som flydende og tilfredsstillende, sammenlignelig med Batman Arkham-spil. Historien med Wei Shen som undercover-agent er medrivende og godt pacet, med en spilletid på omkring 10 timer for hovedhistorien. Dog viser definitive edition betydelige tekniske problemer: konstante framedrops, begrænsede grafiske forbedringer sammenlignet med PC-versionen fra to år tidligere, og en høj pris på $60. Kørselsmekanikken føles stiv, og kamerastyring kan være frustrerende. Alt DLC er inkluderet, men dette tilføjer kun lidt til hovedoplevelsen. For nye spillere er dette et fantastisk spil at opdage, når prisen falder, men for dem der allerede har spillet det eller har en gaming-PC, er denne remaster svær at retfærdiggøre.

Worth every penny. As a middle-aged gamer who thinks GTA5 is a high point of 21st century popular culture, Sleeping Dogs is a close second to Rockstars masterpiece. Strong characterisation, a solid script, excellent action sequences and a great map of Hong Kong make for a superb experience. Highly recommended.

Deeply flawed given the time SE had to iron out glitches and old-school problems. The driving mechanics are awful, with the camera constantly swinging into the wrong position, and very little finesse available. The game crashes far too often. The narrative is odd, and it is difficult to know whether to empathise with some of the characters and Wei or just accept them as Nico like crims even when they are 'cops'. It is GTA-lite with none of the endearing apsects. I got sick to death of re-loading back at my safe house and then having to get all the way across the map again to do a task. You would have thought being able to jump from safe house to save house would be an option and it isn't (unless I am missing something). The fighting is irritiating and although I manage most fights in the end, the timing of certain button combos seems overly sensitive and despite my dojo training I ended up resorting to mashing the buttons or looking for a gun! All in all an irritating experience.
