Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4.8 VR

I wanted a new travel lens to pair with my Z8 - I was using a 24-300 F lens and mount adapter. The 28-400 is a little lighter, doesn't need the mount adapter and gives me an extra 100mm reach. The images are tack sharp, focus speed is okay - even succeeding with BIF. The only downside I have noticed is the F8 minimum aperture at longer focal lengths.

I use for wildlife photography when the animals a super zoom isn't required. Also for walking because the longer lenses are really heavy. It fits a gap between my 150-600mm and the 105 macro

Bought for use mainly on a Nikon Zf. The relatively small size is helpful (smaller than the older 28-300 F mount lens I have), also reasonable lightweight for the focal length. Reacts well on the autofocus although I have not had chance to try it on my most difficult subjects yet (bats in flight at dusk - one for next summer). In my local area, long range shooting is impossible to avoid and this looks to be a very good, general purpose, lens for me.

I hesitated buying this lens. I wanted a lens to replace 2 lenses to bring on a family vacation because I wanted to travel light, and this lens delivered and then some!! The quality is amazing! Sure it isn’t fast but the technology is so good these days, that a high ISO on some pictures isn’t really a problem.Frankly one of the best purchases I have made this year.

I am still getting used to the lens and a new camera body so I am not able to give complete critique, but so far I am very happy with the results so far.
